Do you want to be that missing piece in the puzzle of your unit, the one that makes a difference, offering something that goes beyond what everyone is doing?
Have you learned the essentials at university and your masters, and explored alternative therapies, but still haven’t found a tool that really connects with you ?
Do you wonder if there’s a way to care without burning out, a way to support others that also supports you?

Have you tried art therapy, play therapy, mindfulness… but still feel something is missing , something that would let you accompany others with more freedom and confidence?
Did you finish your degree only to realize that improving quality of life (and death) means going beyond just following protocols?
Do you dream of creating unforgettable moments, even in the toughest sessions, without leaving yourself behind in the process?

welcome to Humor That Cares
a safe space to connect with you from another point,
and so connect as ever with your patients.
Because what truly reaches families is not technique.
It’s emotional truth.
It’s authentic presence.

And that kind of presence —
the one that truly holds and connects —
only arises when we’re willing to care for ourselves first.

When we take a moment to breathe.
To feel.
To pause.
To befriend our emotions instead of hiding them.
Only then can we show up for others
in the way they truly need.

It’s us —
with all the tools we already have,
with our intuition,
with our honest breath,
seeing them, hearing them, feeling them...
and letting ourselves be seen.

That’s what heals.
That’s what truly lands.
That’s Humor That Cares.

About
Welcome to Humor That Cares.

This is a space to not only learn how to care better...
but to enjoy again everything we do,
everything we go through,
and everything we are.
To look and listen without judgment.
To laugh at the things we usually hide.
To embrace what scares us the most.
To allow ourselves to be vulnerable, authentic, real.
And we’ll do it through play ,
by reconnecting with our innocence, our impulses, our creativity,
and our sense of humor.

Because yes, we all carry that within us.
We all had that ability as children — when we didn’t judge ourselves, when everything was new, when we learned and grew through curiosity instead of self-criticism.

Because only from that place, from honest presence,
can we truly connect with others in a way we never have before.

I’m Mónica Santos,
and I’d love to walk alongside you in a journey that won’t just transform your clinical practice,
but the way you relate to others — and to yourself.
25 years ago, I worked at a bank.
My bosses and colleagues often asked me how I gained people’s trust, got great results, and still kept smiling — even under pressure, with endless complaints and long grey office days.
And my answer was always simple:
“Because I’m a clown.”
A clown workshop changed my life — more than 20 years ago.
And like all real transformations, it didn’t happen overnight.
I kept learning (and I still am), exploring, and understanding the philosophy behind this powerful art — and how it could help us live better, not just perform better.
Then came the moment of no return:
My heart and body knew this wasn’t just a path — it was a profession,
a tool for healing, proven and practiced in many parts of the world.
I found my place as a healthcare clown in India — the country I now call home.
I’ve accompanied children, adults, and healthcare professionals across oncology units, ICUs, palliative care teams, orphanages, elder care homes, and schools for children with disabilities, more than 97,000 people had the impact of my visits, something that still today get me emotional, because after son many years, and many stories behind, I can remember all the moments involved in that visits, the pain, the laughts, the way of finding meaning where there is not, and the great teams that have been walking besides me to arrive till today.
My profession has shaped me deeply — as a person and as a professional.
There, I witnessed the power of humor — not as a joke, not as entertainment —
but as a form of emotional presence.
A sincere way to look someone in the eyes and say:
“I’m here with you" with my red nose and my full vulnerability of embracing the unknown that we together were going to create.
That offering — so simple and so powerful — can change a room.
It can shift the emotional atmosphere of a hospital, even in the hardest of times.
It’s not about a professional caring for a patient.
It’s about one vulnerable human being walking alongside another.

Palliative care entered my life like that first clown workshop —
with a deep sense of recognition.
I was more mature, more grounded, and suddenly it all made sense:
This is what I want to do.
To bring together different disciplines, different voices,
to co-create the best possible experience for patients and families — even at the end of life.
Palliative care, and the team I belong to, gave me the language I was missing:
That moment of silence.
That shared gaze.
That trembling in the legs before entering a room where devastating news has just been given...
And still — with respect and sensitivity —
finding a way to offer a little air, a smile, a pause,
a bubble of tenderness in the middle of the pain.

Sometimes I make people laugh.
Sometimes I just breathe beside them.
I always ask for permission — not just with words (my Hindi is still in progress!) —
but with my whole body, with my full presence.

Over the years, the healthcare professionals I’ve worked with began to ask for something more.
They had experienced the impact of humor — when used with empathy, clarity, and care —
and they wanted to learn how to use it in their own work.
And so, after many hours of sharing insights, tools, techniques and stories...
Humor That Cares was born.
Today, I design and lead workshops for hospitals,
helping teams of doctors, nurses and mental health professionals discover new ways to connect, and expand their toolkit to care more deeply — for their patients, and for themselves.
Because when we take care of ourselves, we care better.
And when we enjoy what we do, we spread that joy to everyone around us.
What if I told you that humor — when used with respect and the needed limits of situations —can be a powerful companion, even in the most painful moments?
What if I told you… it can be trained?
What if you joined us and experienced firsthand this unknown — but deeply human — tool
that can change not only your practice… but your life?

That’s the heart of Humor That Cares.
And I’m here to walk beside you.

TESTIMONIALS

Monica is very attuned to group dynamics. She really encourages presence and body awareness. While humour was an important element, she was open and accepting of emotions.

The workshop is designed in a manner to hold space for all parts that may reveal themselves in complex situations of group dynamics and Monica is gently there to hold your hand and reflect what is happening back to you.
I couldnt thing of a more playful way to be.
